Jackpots aren'ts always in casinos

There it was---something worth over $700 with a $30 tag on it! But first, let's swt the stage....
We had vistitors this past week!
My parents came and brought my Dad's brother, Duane, along for a tour of our neck of the woods!Long, long overdue with any time with my uncle the past 10 years. He hadn't ever been to Roswell, New Mexico, or near this area. It was a joy to get close to him again and give him highlights of what the American SouthWest is all about! We live an hour away from the "Most Dangerous Street in the USA". It's where the legendary gunslinger Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett and the whole Young Guns gang were riding horses, marrying local girls and hiding out for their lives. We live 2 hours from Carlsbad Caverns, the largest caving systems in the USA. Go 3 hours from here and you'll find yourself immersed in the most beautiful and serine natual landscape known as White Sands. It's also where the bomb heard round the world was created and tested. We live in Roswell. We are the dairy capital of the USA but we are more known for the alien crash landing of 1947. We live in Alien Town.
We have a nifty trader at the South end of Roswell and we always take our visitors to see what is in store. Located in the midst of dairies and near human food fields, Blair's is the local used furniture, antiques, estate sale items, tools and convenience goodies like movie popcorn munching while you shop kind of place. Last visit, we bought our slighty used back pation fireplace seating set for nearly half of what would be expected in a store. Everyone was perusing. Finn was in the toy aisle. Uncle was consumed with reading all the signs on the wall. Finn ran up and dragged me into the furniture room. Rows of bedroom sets, office chairs, desks, bureaus and miscellaneous items filled the space. I always look at the framed artworks available anywhere. Sometimes just for the frames, sometimes for the gem inside. I recognized an artwork and choked when I saw what I had in my hands....a genuine Claude Monet lithograph of "Camille and the child" also known as "Madame Monet and Child" circa 1875. I turned over the frame and there it was. All the details from the art gallery who lovingly framed and sealed this artistic artifact. It had a piece of tape on it with $30 handwritten on it. I collected myself and nonchalantly asked the cashier to hold the frame behind the counter until I was finished shopping. I giggled to myself throughout the entire store. They had no idea what they had on their hands. Sometimes it pays to be art smart! Claude Monet is most well-known today for his series of serene water lilies paintings, 19th-century Impressionist Claude Monet was a groundbreaking tour de force in the development of expressive art. Throughout his long life, which spanned the years between 1840 and 1926, Monet would progress from drawing amusing caricatures of friends to capturing the elusive nuances of natural scenes in various attitudes of light and color. Along with the other Impressionists, Monet's aim in his painting was to capture reality and analyse the ever-changing nature of light and color. He recorded his surrounding faithfully, from the grime of a Paris railway station to the beauty of his later paintings based on the gardens he created at Giverny in north-eastern France. Monet is one of the most influencial artists of the modern era. The ways he manipulated the brush and paint, used mediums that he could afford. His visions of the everyday life for him. Monet was not without tragedy. While carrying their second child, Camille Monet contracted tuberculosis, and weakened by childbirth, died in 1879. The painting, Camille on Her Deathbed, is Monet's final tribute to his wife, a figure covered in flower blossoms and feathery brush strokes, her face bathed in light. Following his loss, the artist completed a series of 12 frozen ice landscapes as he mourned.Muted colors, frozen landscapes paved the way and by the next decade, he had found those pops of color and lively landscapes you may recognize. Claude Monet and his second wife, Alice, had moved their family to the hamlet of Giverny where they bought a home with property in 1890. Monet set to work to create a private haven where he would produce some of his most well-loved works over the final decades of his life. His series of water lily pond paintings, which consists of approximately 300 canvases in total, 40 of them in large format. Claude Monet had painted his first renditions in the 1890s but produced the majority of the works during the final two decades of his life. After losing both his second wife, Alice, and his eldest son, Jean, in 1911 and 1914 respectively, Claude Monet sought consolation by embarking upon a great new work, a series of massive Water Lilies panels.

And now you know a little bit about Claude Monet and you can sound cultured when the time is right!

New Mexican artist's work hits International stage for a second time this year

Cris Ness, a visionary artist based in Roswell, New Mexico, is set to captivate audiences with her powerful mixed media work, "A Mother's Touch," as part of Ten Moir Gallery's highly-anticipated online exhibition, "Behind the Mask." Opening on April 12, 2025, this exhibition features a diverse array of international artists who explore the underlying emotions and narratives hidden behind the masks we wear in everyday life.

Cris Ness, who resides in Roswell, New Mexico, is celebrated for her innovative approach to contemporary art. The piece selected for this exhibition is a poignant reflection of her experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Created in the solitude of her home studio, "A Mother's Touch" emerged amidst the emotional uncertainty of lockdown. Ness recalls the moment of inspiration vividly: “At the time, I had few art supplies. I had sketch paper and charcoal from our wood stove. I had taken a photograph of my 2-year-old daughter while she was playing with her doll. She was worriedly trying to apply a Mask for her baby. After I sketched the work, I scanned and then applied digital watercolors to the piece. I wanted delicate shading for this piece.”

This artwork serves not only as a personal narrative but also as a universal representation of the challenges faced by parents during the pandemic and the unknown future. The image encapsulates the innocence of childhood, the instinct to protect loved ones, and the often-overlooked emotional struggles that accompany parenting in difficult times.

"Behind the Mask" is more than just an exhibition; it is a global conversation featuring works from esteemed artists representing diverse perspectives. Each piece included in the exhibition invites viewers to ponder what lies beneath the façades we present to the world. This initiative aligns with Ten Moir Gallery's commitment to showcasing thought-provoking art and fostering meaningful dialogues within the community.

The online platform of the exhibition allows art lovers worldwide to engage with these powerful narratives from the comfort of their homes. With artists contributing their unique interpretations, "Behind the Mask" promises to be a rich tapestry of expression, reflecting the myriad emotions and stories shared during a time of collective hardship and introspection.

In addition to exploring individual pieces, the exhibition provides an opportunity for audiences to contemplate broader societal themes, such as the significance of mental health, resilience, and the importance of human connections. As viewers navigate through the exhibition, they will be encouraged to reflect on their own experiences and the masks they wear in their daily lives.

With the opening of "Behind the Mask" on the horizon, art enthusiasts and the general public alike are eagerly anticipating the unveiling of these transformative works. The exhibition will be accessible online, offering an inclusive space for discussion and exploration.

Ness's "A Mother's Touch" stands as a striking representation of the intertwining threads of motherhood and resilience during unprecedented times. As Ten Moir Gallery prepares to launch this thought-provoking exhibition, audiences are invited to delve into the depths of human experience through art. For more information about the exhibition and to explore the featured works, please visit Ten Moir Gallery's online platform.

The exhibition will be unveiled at https://tenmoirgallery.com/

Nobody Cares, Work Harder

That's what my latest sticker from Finn says. She was so proud when she gave it to me, too. "It reminded me of you, Mom. You always say this and you mean it!" The gift of having a Gen X Mom. Can you feel my proud smile?! It got me thinking about my current state of affairs....Perimenopause. I officially entered into that in 2024 or at least was labeled. There were 4 times during the year I had a mega hot flash that ended in loss of consciousness. What would begin as a slight anxious feeling, soon flooded into sweat coming out of every pore. Cue the racing heartbeat and difficulty breathing. My mind would race and tell me, "Hey, you gotta get out of here. Go. Now. You gotta get out of here." Luckily, I never was seriously injured because I was often standing in front of a mirror, watching to see what the fuck my body was doing (taking notes, you know) and then coming out of it listening to my husband or my kids talking me back into existance. I would always be talking back and my mind was so far away. Very out of body feeling.
After several blood tests and visits with my physician, everything came back that I am fit as a fiddle and healthy as can be. Even my heart murmur had improved with my lifestyle. My hashimotos has been in check thanks to fully adipting my lifestyle and keeping within my dietary needs. In fact, if given blood tests, I am in the normal range for everything!
The verdict was these were just some nasty ass hot flashes that accompany perimenopause. Are you kidding me?!The shit. In case you don't know, Perimenopause, also known as the menopause transition, is the period when your ovaries gradually begin to produce less estrogen. This stage typically starts in your early 40s but can begin as early as your 30s or as late as your 50s. I'm 52. Things just began to get whacky. Nobody ever said they passed out with this garbage. My doctor said some bodies react that way and mine is one of them. Thank God, I only had 4 hot flashes that year. LOL
I am not a candidate for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) because of my family's history. Holistic it is, I say with a smile. Herbs take a while to build in the system so I immediately began taking Ashwaganda and magnesium. My hot flashes definitely have improved and I can have one without anyone barely noticing. Cue the insomnia, night sweats, anxiety attacks, getting shitfaced off of 1 cocktail, waking up nauseated, feeling fatigued. Most bothersome for me is the anxiety. I know what I'm thinking is not reality.
I've still been able to keep up with my workouts for mind, body and soul, but I have had days I've listened to my body when I need it. I have big aspirations of completing a mini triathlon in July. Fingers crossed this body cooperates! One of my BODi buddies reached out to check in and I spilled my guts on what my body has been doing. Even though, I am one of, if not, THE oldest in our workout group, I am just entering this stage of life and some of them are already into Menopause (that's when you haven't had a period in 12 months in a row).
I love my fit girls. Lillian, Tina, Annika, Jez....We serious can and DO talk about anything freely. Ro--I love you. She told me about a product that she thought would help. She also had loss of consciousness with hot flashes, severe anxiety and no alcohol tolerance. We joked about being the cheapest dates in town for our husbands :) Make Wellness has come out with a product called CALM, a peptide support for my arsenal against this transition. It's a powder you just put on your tongue and swallow. Delicious and easy! Within 3 weeks, I already noticed less night sweats, the insomnia has improved 50% and my anxiety has made my racing mind a kosher cucumber. No more needless worries or anxiety attacks! And at less than $50/month ABSOLUTELY Game changer!
I also use a cheap shopping club for household everyday items and hit up the supplement section to ease my other symptoms. A 3-in-1 supplement that eases menstrual symptoms, creatine to combat muscle loss related to perimenopause, and electrolytes to drink during hot flashes or night sweats for recovery. Post workout peptides for quicker muscle recovery. All of these supplements could run me $$$ but because there will never be tariffs for this company (MADE IN THE USA), the prices will continue to be rock bottom!
I'm learning there's over 50 symptoms of Perimenopause. For me, going through battery of medical tests to rule things out, taking these herbs and peptides has mostly alleviated my personal symptoms. The key is working with your physician, keeping up on a workout calendar, and talking to your gal pals and guys who have tread before you.
Every body is different but eventually you'll find someone who is going through or has gone through the symptoms you are battling.
If you are in these trenches? What are your obstacles right now?

It's 2025---Time FLIES!!

With the craziness of a worldwide pandemic shutdown, and the fallout, time flies and I had forgotten all about my FaeryBoop Realm community! Hey, the time had profound affects on me, including an 18 pound weight gain. My art stopped when the pandemic began. I had an exhibition happening in Italy, making me an International artist, and the Tuscany gallery had to close. My art died. I was in complete SURVIVAL mode for a while. It happens when all the things you love to do to feel grounded gets yanked by the government----no swimming, no hiking, no biking.

Well, I could go on and on about my disdain but I won't :O Let's get you up to speed on our world.

Clayton is now a Detective and has received numerous awards for his achievements with the latest and greatest being chosen as THE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OF THE YEAR 2024! We really have acclimated to being that blue line family. It takes a team to make this dream work and we each give it our all.

In the past 5 years, we've hosted 2 weddings, one in New Mexico and one in South Dakota. We now have 2 amazing son-in-laws who have quickly become another member of the family. We love the balance they give to our little family. They fit so well that Finn just realized I am not their Mom. Quite the compliment! I strive to be a support for all of our kids. We also became grandparents. We weren't sure how that hat was going to feel. Finn and Summer weren't sure on how to be aunts. We didn't really know how to be OUR KIND of grandparents. We worried needlessly----we are all naturals :) LOL Our family is filled with sassy, strong spirited girls and she has followed suit! We love her antics!

The lovely covid weight needed to be dealt with. I built up my home gym and made that a priority. I lost half of what I needed that first month. The rest was found when I took up an elimination diet challenge and identified foods that were causing full body inflammation. I continued on my journey and as of today, I have been steady strength training and still incorporating pilates seasonally for five years now. In that 5 years, I've taken my fitness to new heights. At 50, I competed in Muscle & Fitness magazine's cover contest and I topped out in the top 1 percent in the world!

I also made amazing friendships with people all over the world I talk to on a daily basis. I was chosen by the BODi platform to be in their filming cast for the first ever Spanish speaking workouts and I appear in many of the BODi building segments. Finn has grown up watching her mom on TV. Doing a workout comes naturally to her. I also was able to inspire my family to get into the concept of wellness.

This journey of life stopping, and then recognizing cycles in myself, caused me to hire a trusted life coach. Such a rewarding and difficult experience. I did not realize how much losing my baby sister when I was 5 years old had shaped and affected my belief system, how that shaped decisions for years to come. If you are interested in hiring a life coach, I can recommend a few people. Just ask! Hiring that life coach helped me recognize my reactions, the whys, how to rewire that thinking. Just an total indepth evaluation of how I operate without judgement. I am how I am and this is why and why it is OK. This look inward also helped me identify things outside of myself as well. I reached out to people I had let go that meant something to me. I found myself having the courage to be more vulnerable that I had ever been. Again, quite the journey!

BODi ended up fizzling out. Still love the workouts and trainers and now some are fitness acquaintences. I just don't work the business module any longer. I also attained my NASM virtual coaching certification and can legally train people via the internet just as I was doing with BODi.

Daughter Sydnie and I opened up my dream of having a backyard swim school last summer. We had 2 sessions of lessons and had doubled the number of kids in that second session! It grew. It was nice to get my lifesaving/swim coaching and CPR credentials back in my life. I love teaching kids how to safe around the water!

This past year found us making the most of every day with our aging babies. Chica passed on the end of August and Gunther followed her six months later. That has been quite a change for our family as the babies were part of our lives for 10 years. In the year leading up to their deaths, we had a large Belgium Malanois who was obviously abandoned and ended up taking refuge in our carport 3 months. After Chica passed, we let her in. Winnie is a proud member of the Ness Clan now. Her presence really did extend our time with Gunther. He enjoyed having her around.

This year's focus for me has been my getting my artwork back out there. I have started this year with a bang! In January, I donated one of my artworks to the Roswell Police Department to be given away as a door prize at the annual awards ceremonies. Clayton's office is set up like a private museum and is even included on police department tours for the public. I was asked specifically for a submission from one of my fans who is a Brass in the PD. I also earned an exhibition spot in a Winter 2024 open call online event for Art Collide! Please check this exhibit out, there is so much talent in this show! I have a few more hooks out there to round out the year and I am hopeful to get into a physical exhibition to take my family to and we can make an event of it with our smoking jackets, fancy clothes and snooty dinners with private collectors :)

Ladies and Gentlemen: The Lady is Back :)

Now that I've found this again---stay tuned! I'll try to update this weekly! Much love!

Tales from the Pecos Valley

Tales from the Pecos Valley:

As we  sit in our comfortable camping chairs in our living room of the home we have chosen to close on, we can’t help but smile about our journey so far! We are sun baked, peeling and cold sore  riddled with assorted bumps and bruises...but, WE ARE HOME!

Our knuckling down, sacrificing the past year and having faith in this path has taken us on this grand journey....3,500 plus miles in 3 months, our super smart finances afforded us three months of no income during this intense hiring process (treating it as a cheap vacation with our family at home) PLUS WE RELOCATED with a 9-day deadline before Clay needed to report for his first day of work. We are an amazing family if I do say so!

There are so many things we are thankful for - our children facetiming and calling daily, my parents keeping up their funny texts, calls and antics and our friends sending us long distance Easter Greetings as we adjusted to our new surroundings with kind and loving new neighbors that got the girls Easter goodies. Life is grand.💚

Our new community is filled with old fashioned kindness and that is what drew us here after visiting last fall. It is smack dab “in the middle of nowhere” as they say here and at 48,000 people, is the most populated area for 200 miles in any direction. Before we found our home, there was a mishap and the exhaust was damaged on our Nissan. The mechanic seeing our South Dakota plates, refused to take payment after he band-aided the problem until parts arrive and told us to “pay kindness forward”. Our neighbors immediately welcomed us into our home and have checked in on us from time to time, and given us their personal phone numbers if we need anything. The sargeants at Clay’s work also have checked up to make sure we are adjusting well. Our realtor is like an extended family member here, also checks in and is always giving us Roswell tips from dining to scorpion and centipede warnings.  Even the internet installer, gave me the lowdown on the city, welcomed us to the neighborhood - he is five streets over - and gave us his personal cell number if we need anything at all. His childhood best friend lives right next door. Even the sellers of our home (with the assistance of their realtor and ours), rushed to the house with only a day notice to get things  live-in ready for us so we could be settled by the Easter weekend.

This community has all of the services we love, without much of the the negatives that goes along with bigger cities. The Chaves County sherriff’s Department along with the Roswell Police Department made the front page daily newspaper on Wednesday with the headline “Deputies arrest 56 at Sunday house party”...it was a massive underage drinking party with 100 kids fleeing in all directions. However, the main  headline was about a deal reached with the City of Roswell and U-Haul after a “tree-trimming” incident damaged trees that lined Roswell’s South Main Street area. 😁 The noon whistles blow at noon for lunch and everyone enjoys eating together.
This incredible journey really has demonstrated how versatile our little family is....back in the campground, we literally had one kilowatt of electricity afforded us in our remote camping spot. Thankfully, our children know how to function within the beauty of nature, so being entertained was just outside our door. Our older kids checked in on us daily and didn’t drain our  resources and put on smiles for us through  their tears about missing us and asked how their dad was getting on with his new job and if we were adjusting ok.
We miss them and cannot wait to show them and our peeps  this gem of the Pecos Valley...and let’s not forget, it’s the UFO capital DEL MUNDO!!!

Nanu nanu er Blessings!✌🏼

Enjoy the Tramp!

My story has been the untold story of so so so many others before me. The circumstances vary from person to person on how we ended up here.  Childbearing, excessive weight, a hysterectomy...all take a toll on your pelvic floor.

I am talking about the embarrassing and silent chatter about ....bladder leakage! It can happen during physical exertion, the simple act of sneezing or coughing, it can happen when you try your hardest for it not to!
Our fourth baby is now 2...and until recently, I battled the dribbling accidents! I’ve done literally THOUSANDS of Kegels and it didn’t help with that at all! I thought to myself that I finally did it, I finally broke myself. The fourth baby laid out my pelvic floor and the elastic is gone. I just had to resign to the fact that I might leak when running or jumping on a trampoline. And grab myself every time I sneezed.
Before I finally gave up every ounce of hope, I decided to learn about my pelvic floor. In short form, the area is like two hammocks hanging across each other  in your pelvis. I found an amazing video on youtube made by a physical therapist and it was a game changer! When I finally woke up those muscles with her help, I was able to stop my urine mid-stream! Before when I tried, it was like flipping an electric switch with no light bulb in it. Nothing would happen! It was simply that I couldn’t turn on the correct muscle group for the job before! No amount of Kegels would’ve retrained my brain!
If you can’t find your deep front pelvic floor and it is lost, give this video a shot! Click here!
Blessings and I hope you find success with waking up your pelvic floor!

Holistic hair: Pet my head

Who would have ever guessed I could enjoy long hair ...me....the lass who forever endured the effects of thyroid hair for years. And what do I mean by thyroid hair? Dry, brittle, split ends, breakaway and dull looking hair. Hair that frizzed with just a 5 mph wind. Hair that would only tame with a washing (or so I thought).
In my years long quest to cut away from chemicals, I have cut out shampooing( besides dry shampoo), hair conditioner, all non-natural hair products, and have arrived to a place where my hair chemical dependancy lies solely in color treatment....yes thanks to my thyroid, I enjoyed my first gray hair at the tender age of 14. I color and find much enjoyment in it.
Ok back to my newest chemical free love, the 100% boar hair bristle brush! This brush is truly amazing. It cleans my hair with each stroke. It separates and coats each strand of my hair with my own protecting oil. This creates shine and protects from breakage and split   ends. The soft bristles massage my own oil glands and opens hair pores for more hair growth. The blood flow stimulates hair follicles. My scalp feels gently massaged and recharged. It is the best $15 I have spent! Also this brush should last my lifetime-hello new hair bestie!

   Natural hairbrushing is easy too!
  • Brush from root to tip of hair strand
  • Brush hair in sections
  • Use your natural boar hair brush on dry hair onlyhttps://conair.hair-brush.org/
  • Use a wide toothed comb to remove hair snarls
  • Brush hair twice daily
  • Regularly clean your brush by using a comb to remove any hair, dandruff or chemical build-up from products.
You’ll find yourself really enjoying that scalp massage and shiny hair from your new holistic hair care routine! It is really that simple!
I gain ziñch out of pushing products. But I’ve gotten lots of requests asking where I found my brush. Check in with your local Walgreens! Or Conair .
Blessings!

Joint healthy soup recipe

It’s a balmy minus 2 degrees Fahrenheit as I write this blog...perfect day for homemade soup! I recall both of my grandmotgers using up all of  their leftovers to the max...may I introduce you to the magic food known as bone broth. Its that magic potion for chronic inflammation sufferers!
Bone broth has a multitude of benefits! The collagen in bone broth lubricates joints, feeds the elasticity of your skin and feeds you hair and nails! Many of us who suffer from chronic pain, often have found out gut health to be less than optimal. Bone broth also helps heal the intestinal tract, too. Theres a whole list of benefits and you can click here to read about it from expertts.
On to MY personal expertise...awesome and easy gluten free cuisine! Here’s  my recips for easy and fast gluten free asian  soup with bone broth as a base!

Gluten-Free Asian Hot Soup
1 cup bone broth (I use beef  because I need the iron)
1 cup filtered water
1 clove fresh garlic
1/4 inch freshly gratedginger root
1 Tbsp. Amino Acids
Dash of fish sauce
Dash of sesame oil
I - 2 raw whole farm fresh egg
2-4 crumbled sheets of the snack-sized seaweed sheets
1 Tbsp. Korean chili sauce
Optional:
Handful of thin or stir fry rice noodles
Tofu
Fresh vegetables

Throw all your ingredients in a glass microwave-safe bowl. Place a loose cover over the bowl. Microwave for two and a half minutes, stir, and cook for additional two minutes and thirty seconds.
Transfer to serving bowl or bowls. This makes one super hearty serving or two small servings to go along with a half sandwich or homemade sushi roll!
Blessings!

New Year, Same Me

As the hours wane for 2018, a tradition of looking through the thousands of photographs I've taken throughout the year commences.

t first begins with just me reliving the past year but inevitably, I begin roping in my clan to join in the memories. With the ease of technology in this age, not only do I have photographs to recollect, both in digital and hardcopy forms,  but short videos and memes I’ve designed as well. This morning, we marveled at how our lives changed throughout this past year and how many fun memories we made just enjoying our day to day. Last year’s focus was, in fact, making memories.
Our Clayton & Cris Ness Family Christmas Ride 2018

For those who wish to just read the highlights:
  • Keira is living in an apartment in New Underwood, tackling night classes and management classes while working full time. She is also New Underwood's resident Cat Lady.
  • Sydnie moved into her first apartment in Rapid City, graduated high school, and is holding two jobs with one being in the healthcare field, with on the job training for becoming a nurse. She was accepted to SDSU but has chosen to decline the offer until she truly knows where her interests are.
  • Summer is an avid Summer....doing her thing, taking high school classes, being a role model “big”  sister and designing and creating her costumes for the next comic con.
  • Finn began the year crawling and finished the year sprinting and toilet  trained. She is an artist, gardener, chef, housekeeper, sports lover and outdoors girl obsessed with her hatred of  flies.
  • Clayton knows stuff.
  • Cris knows lots of useless but interesting factoids.

We began our year traveling for business in a record winter storm. We found ourselves in minus 21 below as a high, just a few mere miles from the Great White North,  staying extra days to make an important meeting for his career. We still remember quite fondly just how warm the hotel's wonderful pool was. In South Dakota, the weather was unseasonably warm with open waters and Summer, Finn & I took in more trails of the beautiful Black Hills with our four footers. Our backyard was still welcoming as we practiced our yoga daily outside and Finn explored the grounds crawling around.

February brought the snow to our area, forcing us indoors more often, and thinking about the possibilities that our future held. Dreams abounded! My artwork took on more meaning, more of me poured into each stroke. After years of self teaching, I challenged myself to not mask my visions any longer or get wrapped up on the rules. My Clayton has unlocked any door I had. I found myself painting more often and with purpose....not lost or anxiety ridden as I had always been before. My days of nurturing our wee Finn with breastmilk were quickly coming to an end and I took in every second I could. I kept to my autoimmune lifestyle and my hair has been the longest it has been in over 25 years!

March is monumental in our family...it hosts the date of our marriage plus the start of what we call "the birthday season". Finn celebrated her first birthday in Finn fashion at a local hotel's swimming pool with our family and some of her extended family. Her older siblings were joyous to "swim with the Roo" and the grandparents enjoyed watching our family be a family together. Our kids, ranging in ages from 1 to 20, have lots of varying goals-There's lots going on for us to enjoy!

Our April was filled with birthdays and fun stuff like Finn AND Clayton's first kite flying adventure. We celebrated the arrival of spring with backyarding, hiking and cycling. We enjoyed our Mustang and listening to the birds talk in our yard. Prom was in our midst again and the weather held perfect. We were no longer held hostage indoors, reflecting on things yet to come or not come on the business side of our lives.
My sweet husband adopted a bonsai tree for me  for Mother's Day and I began the art of bonsai. Steeped in history, this art quickly is becoming a passion for me. The tree still lives.  My birthday was spent in a tree line along a crest of the Black Hills with two of my favorite people. And true to form, the girls and I were lost for a short stint. Our adventure brought us to breathtaking views and laughs. Also, when we got cell service again, I found myself  ribbed in texts by  beloved cousins about my coupe of the year older persuasion and I quickly let my parents who had been waiting in our driveway to take me to lunch that we were alive and well and 20 minutes out since I knew where we were finally. Such is the fantastic life of an immensely lucky home gal.
Summertime in our house means outdoors as much as possible. We swim, we hike, we bike, we stargaze, we dream, we love, we laugh, we savor. We garden and enjoy what our backyard offers us. It is my art studio, our family gathering place, movies under the stars  and as a wildlife watching point as deer live in the backyard next door. We got to see our resident doe calf twins there. Magic happens when you open your eyes and see. I am a nature mom....getting to be home has been simply amazing. We were outside by 8am, backyard outdoor yoga at 9, playing and artwork or basketball or swimming or blowing bubbles, playing the uke and inside by 8 lol. I didn't think I did as much hiking this year - until I looked back at my photographic history.

e might have rivalled our 50+ miles we put on last year! This year, Summer bypassed me in height too and those  long legs served her well on the trails with her finishing first for a change.

Our summertime ended with a few car travels - we enjoyed the hospitality of the big city Minneapolis on a business excursion, with Clayton having an important meeting and the girls and I taking in the local transportation to downtown. We took the girls to a fondue restaurant and the Mall of America. We finished our summertime season with a joy ride to New Mexico, staying at their state parks in our tent with our four footers. We loved everything we experienced there from the locals to the vast views and beautiful colors Life is a bit slower there than we are accustomed to in the north. We swam in sinkholes,  looked at aliens and apartments.

On that trip, we were called by mom to say dad was rushed to the hospital for his heart failure condition. His emergency visit prompted his doctor to push his heart surgery that seems to be working wonderfully. Mom is semi-retired (if there is such a thing) and they seem to be on the go! She had her share of health problems but with the right crap (I’m being literal) she is her old self again!
Our fall was busy with Sydnie moving into her first apartment and graduating from high school. She is working two jobs, one in the healthcare field working her towards becoming a nurse.  Keira is living in an apartment with her boyfriend in New Underwood and  taking evening classes, working on management classes for her job and working full time. She also is New Underwood's resident Cat Lady. She is loving being a fur baby mom. Summer began the year in middle school classes and finished the year excelling  in high school classes. She is a wizard in algebraic forms and advanced high school geometry. She also is celebrating the fact that she can finally read movie subtitles in the amount of time needed without pausing the show....#dyslexialife.
Winter arrived for us in our last night  in the tent - on  a camping trip at Angostura with my parents and uncle. We had a glorious bike ride around the reservoir, good food and campfire laughter and awoke to snowflakes as the heater in our tent kept the cold out.

My extra time away from much social media has afforded me more time to work on personal goals.  This fall, my newest artwork captured the eye of a curator and I was encouraged to submit artwork to a board of their curators. I was awarded not one, but two, one-year contracts by an INTERNATIONAL art gallery, 1340gallery, that represents "not only artists you know, but artists you should know". This gallery is a tremendous opportunity towards my global art goals. Locally, one of my pieces was used as a business’ IGChristmas greeting. In June, I traded a few paintings for a ukulele and boy did that turn into a massive obsession.  I also have achieved a third grade level in Spanish and am still working on it. I'd say the grammer or proper use of grammer has been the biggest difficulty. Finn can take direction in both English and Spanish at this point. I practice using it in real life with others on my Instagram and that has been a huge asset since I have to spell things correctly too.
Clayton and I have learned the art of patience not only with this gaggle of girls but in his career path as well. The government works like molasses in winter sometimes! We plan on supplying details in the near future...however, we thought that last January!
Happy New Year and to all and a prosperous and blessed 2019!

Take a big bite of yummy-ness

Bake up these chewy gluten free pumpkin and oatmeal bars in no time! I love cooking and baking...but I don't want to have my whole day tied into a project. These bars are quick, versatile, healthy, gluten free and paleo!
I came up with this recipe after pondering on how to deter our toddler girl from eating 4-8 tablespoons of  peanut butter at a time! Not only does she love these -we keep the chocolate out and our dogs enjoy these healthy treats!

GF Pumpkin and Nut Butter oatmeal bars
2 1/2 cups gluten free rolled oats
1 cup pumpkin puree like Libby’s or homade
1/2 cup softened nut butter (I used peanut butter)
1/2-1 tsp pumpkin spice

Optional:1/2-3/4 cup dried fruit - like turkish apricots, cranberries
Assorted nuts like almonds or cashews
Line bottom of baking pan with caramel corn for a healthy twist  with popcorn balls!

Stir together all ingredients and pour into an 8 or 9 inch lightly greased baking pan. Cook for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees F. Let cool and cut into squares.

These can be kept in the fridge and they freeze nicely to keep a supply on hand!

Have fun creating your own personal bar! Play around with the additions or try different spices!
Blessings, friends!

The Flu Shot: Hashimoto's and the flu vaccination

Hashi Warriors and the Flu Vaccine
Stay healthy this flu season
by amping up your immune system
with energy movement

Much debate happens every year on whether people should or need to get the year's influenza vaccination. Quite frankly, the whole issue of vaccinations is a touchy subject in the states  among folks...a topic for another time - I have strong feelings on the side of NOT vaccinating, but that is not today's topic.
Is the flu shot necessary....does it help...will this miracle shot  save your life? Are you in the Center for Disease Control's categories of those who "probably" should not get the influenza vaccination? A really good resource on this topic is Dr. Kirk Gair who has written a few books on the subject and who started his quest to learn all he can because the information saved his wife from the devastating affects of  a Thyroid Storm. Click on his link to see what he has to say about Hashimoto's and the flu shot.
If you are like me, whenever I received the influenza vaccination, I battled illnesses the rest of the season. I documented and have proof that demonstrated I would have one cold or virus run into another, I would catch lots of viruses and minor flus I came into contact with....it seemed to bog my immune system down. Now there is scientific evidence that supports my personal claims. Or rather, if my Hashimoto's is in hyper drive and very active, it has been found to be detrimental and is more like poking the bear living inside me...and I'm not the only one!
According to the Holter Medical Group, "Although it is unclear exactly why some patients with these health conditions have complications(to the influenza vaccine), there are a few possible explanations. It could be related to mitochondrial dysfunction, which many of these patients have. It could also be directly related to the immune response elicited by the vaccine. One physician who has treated over 2,000 Hashimoto’s patients reports that 80% of his patients have infection with the Epstein Barr virus in their history. This is thought to play a role in the onset or exacerbation of the condition for many Hashimoto’s patients.Interestingly, there is some evidence that Influenza B may also be involved as an initiating factor. Even if it is not directly related, it affects the same part of the immune system as Epstein Barr. This also happens to be the part of the immune system that attacks the thyroid in autoimmune thyroid conditions."
While I'm no physician or doctor, or nurse or practitioner, I am one heck of a researcher and I am an award winning journalist! In America, it's a little bit tougher to find out certain kinds of information (hot topics like vaccines or abortion that have a lot of money into the outcomes) but it is out there in small doses and under pages of professionals finally being able to piece the puzzle together.  I encourage you to look into these website addresses to look into this topic for yourself :)

Knowledge is personal power on your quest for good health! And the more we share, the more we can do what is best for each one of us and not be one of the "herd".

So if you follow my blog, you'll know how natural I attempt to be. I limit chemicals entering my body via by the food and drink or by environmental exposure and skin products. I strive to limit my chemical exposure and I firmly believe this alone helped to calm my Hashimoto's down when it was in a whirlwind.

So how do I avoid the flu? The flu is air borne and knowing this information is half the battle! In our home, we spray essential oils in the air, we use the old pan of water and essential oils and boil that down into the air. We have hand sanitizer right by the front door when we get home from a social event, and we use it! We eat organic, healthy foods from all the food groups (even the gluten free family members). Eating processed food or food with preservatives is limited. We boost ourselves with vitamin C and echinacea, we consume elderberry and overall try to get quality sleep and quality exercise....and we laugh a lot.
Our Family.....
has fun and laughs :)
Just being happy is another trick to fostering a good immune system. We incorporate energy work, like Reiki, or Yoga, into our every day lives. Our body's energy systems need movement within them to function properly.
I hope I've helped you find some resources to help you learn and get another step into recovery for you or your loved ones Hashimoto's or other autoimmune condition!
Blessings!

Fluoride free, that's the way for me!

When I was child in grammar school, I was chosen by my teacher to be a character in our class play about tooth decay. My character was called Fluoride Flossy and I got to "save the day" and destroyed the effects of the villain that caused tooth decay to the enamel of our teeth. I portrayed a superhero in the fourth grade! Fluoride has long been touted as the saver of teeth and in the United States, many of the municipalities add the substance to their water.
Hiking and swimming with some of my clan
Black Hills, South Dakota
Many Americans use toothpaste that has fluoride and dental experts all over the land recommend using products that contain it. But there is mounting evidence that Fluoride is harmful to health, especially to people trying to tame their Hashimoto's beasts.
Since I can remember, I had "bloody" teeth every time I brushed. My parents thought I brushed too hard, maybe I wasn't brushing enough, I needed to floss more, the list goes on and on. I always had bloody teeth after brushing regardless of bristle softness or how often I brushed. This went on into my adulthood....until I ditched fluoride and went fluoride free.
My real life Thyroid Superhero, Dr. Izabella Wentz, and no I have not in any way by paid to say this, has gone on record about the use of Fluoride and the Thyroid function. "A dose of 2-5 mg of fluoride per day was typically found to be effective for suppressing an overactive thyroid. If you live in the typical fluoridated community and you’re being a “good girl” (or “good boy”) by drinking your 8 cups of water each day, chances are, you are inadvertently taking in enough fluoride to suppress your thyroid. Most adults in these communities are ingesting between 1.6 and 6.6 mg of fluoride per day."
My goodness, the exhilaration I felt when I spit and it wasn't red...I had to do it again and again. WONDERFUL!!! I started with off the shelf fluoride free toothpaste and after a couple of years, made my own from ingredients I had right in the kitchen!

I no long have the dragon breath of a Hashi warrior, I have the healthy smile of a Hashi warrior that takes on my world!

My simple diy fluoride free toothpaste:

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp. ground sea salt
  • 2-3 tbsp. ground egg shells, finely ground
  • 20 drops of assorted essential oils like peppermint, cinnamon, clove, tea tree
  • Optional ground cloves, ground cinnamon
Mix well.

This simple recipe helps a Hashi's teeth and gums heal from the use of Fluoride. Coconut oil calms sore gums and is an antiseptic, the sea salt assists in rebuilding enamel as does the calcium in the egg shells. I am now a bloody free toothbrusher! You will be too if you kick the fluoride out of the picture with fluoride free toothpaste and mouthwash, watching your intake red and black tea and limiting the steep time, checking the ingredients on medications, and adding the supplement Taurine, click on the ink to learn more,  into your diet will help. I encourage each of you to look deeper into this issue of fluoride and Hashimoto's  on your own. I can only attest to what personally happened to me :)

I've got some big things in the works right now and will be keeping you posted as things unfold! Until then, I hope this post finds you and guides you to an easier day and a restful sleep!
Blessings!

Tumeric paste for YOU

Delicious golden milk...
the drink that feels like a comfy blanket for your belly
Tumeric…..that lovely spice from India that creates heat and stains everything a buttery golden hue. Tumeric has become a staple of my life! It is the Goddess of ayuda that assists in everything from inflammation to treating little nicks and cuts on my body. I LOVE IT! If you have enjoyed the savory food of the curry variety - then you already have enjoyed the benefits of this lovely tuber.

CELEBRATE! Tumeric got me
down to my pre-pregnancy dress size
this month!
Hashimoto's Thyroiditis - Hashi's- to those of us who have the autoimmune condition can be prone to developing inflammation throughout the joints in our bodies. Inflammation can be painful ….downright annoying and studies from around the world have shown that over 90% of various types of cancer BEGINS with inflammation.

"Chronic inflammation is known to drive many cancers, especially liver cancer. Researchers have long thought that's because inflammation directly affects cancer cells, stimulating their division and protecting them from death. But researchers have now found that chronic liver inflammation also promotes cancer by suppressing immunosurveillance -- a natural defense mechanism in which it's thought the immune system suppresses cancer development."

Tumeric helps me
keep up with four
active daughters!
I get inflammation...I can weigh around 5-6 pounds more in excess water if inflammation is being an issue. That's when I looked into the benefits of Tumeric and how to incorporate the spice into my life! Inflammation makes my joints feel stiff and sore and every movement can be uncomfortable. Try this simple recipe for a Tumeric Paste to mix in your food or with your morning cuppa. Actually our little family enjoys a cup of golden milk (warmed milk with 1/4to 1/2 tsp. turmeric paste) before we retire for the night. The ingredients are perfect for calming tummies and easing digestion, relieving inflammation and aches.
Tumeric Tea also known as Golden Milk, gives your immune system a great boost, tastes amazing AND makes you feel great! The oils are necessary for your body to accept the turmeric as is the ground pepper. Another amazing benefit of this paste is it can be given to your four legged friends! Dogs will take this paste willingly in their food and can really help with arthritis, injuries both internal and external!

Golden Paste

1/2 cup turmeric powder
enough water to make a good paste
2 tbsp. coconut oil or olive oil
1/4 tsp fresh grated ginger root
1/2 tsp. cardamom powder
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground pepper

Mix together over heat until well mixed. Store in an air tight container in your cooler for up to two weeks.

The paste can then be used in teas, assorted milks, and coffees to the ratio of anywhere from 1/4 tsp or 1/2 tsp per servings having 2 to 3 servings per day as needed.

I usually begin my day and end my day with this luscious golden paste in my bevies. You really will notice a huge difference in stiffness in your joints or aches in your body of any kind.

Blessings and enjoy the luner eclipse and happy full moon :)
